Strathisla Distillery

Founded 1786 as Milltown Distillery by George Taylor

Also known as Milton Distillery and Milton-Keith Distillery. The name was changed to Strathisla Distillery in 1950’s.

Oldest operating distillery in Scotland.

On 15 June 1993 Strathisla received an unexpected visitor from Louisville, Kentucky; a young black and white cat fell asleep among some bourbon barrels in a container awaiting shipment to Scotland. On opening the container some four weeks later, the cat staggered out, weak from hunger and drunk from the bourbon fumes in the enclosed space.

After six months’ quarantine, the cat, for obvious reasons called Dizzy, is now employed by Chivas Bros. as a “mouser”.
